Dr. Roberta Freeman, Ed.D.

Dr. Roberta FreemanDaughter of Sheila and Robert, sister of Leonard, Kenneth and Deanne, wife of Alvin, mother of the A-Team, and an inspiration and friend to many, Dr. Roberta Freeman was born in Long Branch, New Jersey and grew up in Asbury Park and Neptune, New Jersey.  At an early age, with her dolls as students, Roberta knew she would be an educator.  Her passion for learning and love of children fueled her to fervently pursue her dream.

Dr. Freeman graduated from Neptune Senior High School in 1989 and she then attended Virginia State University. While at VSU, she became a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.  Roberta graduated from Virginia State in 1994 and she was hired in September as a second grade teacher.  While teaching second grade, Roberta was recognized as employee of the month several times and in 1999 she was named teacher of the year as well as receiving the Governor's Teacher of the Year award.

In 2004 Dr. Freeman graduated from Kean University with a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.  Two months after graduating, she was appointed as a district administrator.  While at Central Office she completed all requirements to obtain her Chief School Administrator certification.  In 2009, she returned to Kean University and side by side with her husband, they both pursued doctorate degrees in Educational Leadership.  She successfully defended her dissertation, The Making of a Dropout: Examining The Real ABCs in Education, on April 27, 2017.

After 27 highly successful years in the same district, and seeking a much needed change, Dr. Freeman came to Middlesex Borough in August of 2021 as the Assistant Superintendent of Schools. Throughout her career, Dr. Freeman has championed many educational initiatives. She is an adjunct professor at Kean University as well as a writer, a leader of leaders, and motivational speaker.

Dr. Freeman’s greatest joy is her beautiful family.  She has been happily married to Dr. Alvin L. Freeman since 2002 and they welcomed their triplets, the A-Team, in August of 2012.

Her husband Alvin is the Superintendent of the Bound Brook Public Schools.  Yes, the Middlesex-Bound Brook rivalry is about to get REAL.
